MotoGP at Laguna Seca

MotoGP was here this past weekend for the first of their two rounds held in the country. I'm not normally the kind of person to get star-struck, but these damn GP bikes really did it for me. Just the mere sound of them was like beholding the big-booming voice of a god.

Dramatic, I know. That's cause they gave me a boner.

Electrical Gremlin

Somewhere in there, there's one hiding, and I've got about 3 months to find it.

Unless I sell the bike first...

Rusty's Track Day

If he could've, he would've driven himself to his track day.

Unfortunately, he had a slight lowside crash himself:

But nothing that a little wash couldn't buff out, and some more napping to wrap up.

Team Dennis and Belle Track Day

With our team mascot Rusty. :)

Infineon Raceway.

I guess a 5:30 AM drive
was a tad too early for the mascot.

Yesterday we started off this July 4th weekend with a trackday at Infineon, this time I had Belle and Rusty in tow. This was the first time that Belle has been able to make it to a trackday of mine since my very first one back in October, this being my seventh. Lucky number seven, eh?

Rusty woke up along with the sun,
his ever continuing love affair.

"Foreshadowing."

It was a great day with the weather, and meeting up with some riding buddies and meeting new ones, so our pit area got even more crowded than we had expected. But you know what they'd say; the more the merrier. We had Trung with us, who I last met in May at Infineon as well when he did his first trackday. I told him about yesterday's trackday just two weeks prior, thinking it would've been too short of a notice for him to jump along, but apparently it wasn't. We also met Mike, who pitted next to us, but didn't actually have a "pit," so we simply invited him over to ours. After all, he was obviously a Team Green fan himself.

From L to R: Mike, Trung, and me

Rusty socks it up. Get it?
I'm so clever!

Didn't take long for Rusty to
gain a fan club.

Both of my toys waiting to play.

I call this picture "jealousy."

Rusty takes his post-morning sleep nap.
Or was it his pre-afternoon nap nap?
I lose track.

Us boys talking shop after each of our first sessions.
Rusty eventually got bored and did what he does best.

Mike back on the track.

Rusty disappointed that I
had to stay off the track.

Unfortunately, despite the weather looking otherwise, it wasn't a completely perfect day. None of us could figure out what it was, but there was an awful lot of crashes that day, practically at least one every session. It seemed like everyone got caught up in what a nice day it was to ride, that a number of folks wanted to take advantage of the track's perfect temps and push themselves and their bikes, unfortunately ending up with the rubber side up instead of down. Too much excitement was what I said, with someone crashing on the FIRST LAP on the FIRST SESSION just after lunch, as an example. Even our friend Trung had a lowside crash himself that resulted in rash fairings, but at least he was able to ride the bike off the track, and still do the remaining sessions for the day with not problem.

Another unfortunate note was my bike's electrical problem(s) continuing on to yesterday from Thunderhill two weeks ago. I got through the first session of the day just fine, but about midway through the second session my ignition fuse blew again, running me off the track with nothing to do until the recovery crew got my bike back to me by lunch. Lunch time came and so did my bike, and I quickly pull apart some of the bike to look for a rogue wire, as the consensus seemed to be that a/some wire was loose and touching a metal part, resulting in short in the circuit. I thought I found the perpetrator, so I wrapped it and pulled it away from anything metal, got back on the track on the first session after lunch, only for the fresh fuse I had just placed in to blow again. The rest of the day was spent in me off the track again, having to wait for my bike until the end of the day.

The only consolation to that headache was the great weather, and the great people I was with to pass the rest of the day.

Another track friend, Ian.

Trung back on the saddle, soldiering
through the rest of the day after his
very first crash. The man was intent
on improving.

Packing up to go home.

Rusty knocked out from being
knocked out all day.

Belle knocked out from Rusty
being knocked out all day.

Looks like I'm going to be out of commission for awhile until I sort out what's causing the short in my bike. Even my pit tent had to be thrown away after the track's heavy wind late in the day crushed it. As far as my trackday adventure, the next and last one for the season will be a weekend at Reno Fernley in October.

Until then, my adventures will have to be off-track adventures.

Such as next week's 24-hour adventure in Vegas with Belle.
